Valves in Plumbing

The valves in a plumbing system carry out important functions. Below are some valves and what they do:
Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV):

The TRV valve helps to control the water flow through the radiators in your home using a thermostat fitted inside that uses the temperature of the water to open and close. Because the temperature of the water dictates the action of these valves it is a great way of controlling individual rooms according to their usage, this can save heat and money. Battersea Plumbers are experienced tradesmen.

The Gate:

Almost always connected in systems that have a straight direction of flow. It is also known by the name ‘sluice valve’. It is operated by either raising or lowering a wedge shape fitted to the shaft of the valve and a wheel on top to turn it.

Stop Valve:
The best type of valve to fit within a system that needs a great amount of water pressure and is generally the valve used to stop the water from entering the home and is normally at the front of the property for easy access.

Check Valve:
A valve that only allows water to flow through it in one direction only.

Double Check (Valve):

A check valve is used to ensure that water can only pass through it one way. If the water attempting to come back up the pipe in the wrong direction is dirty, or potentially dirty, then a double check valve is used, so that if the first valve fails, the second will stop the flow.

The Globe Valve:
These valves have a shaft on which something called a stopper sits, this moves up or down to allow the water to flow. Usually used when the flow needs regular adjustment. A Battersea Plumber fits and maintains these types of valves.
