An unvented cylinder is not too hard to identify if you know what you are looking at. The first thing to know is that the cylinders fitted to this type of system are usually constructed from copper. They will normally have a fiberglass insulated cover on them, although it may be a foam covering/insulation. There will be a pipe outlet at the top which rises quite slowly at a horizontal angle to the cylinder. Battersea Plumbers have lots of experience in different systems and can service and repair them all. This pipework splits to form a tee, with one facing up and the other facing down. Looking up and following the pipe you eventually meet a cold-water storage vessel, and this vent pipe will finish over the top of it. It is arranged such that when water fills the pipe it returns to the cold-water storage tank. Now if there is a vent pipe, you have a standard ‘vented’ hot-water cylinder. If not, the odds are you will have an unvented cylinder, which has these features:a). This type usually has a thin metal jacket rather than a foam or fiberglass cover. You usually can’t see the insulation. A Battersea Plumber knows the differences.b). It has a flat type of top, or an expansion tank is in close proximity.c). There is a collection of valves which are part of the cylinder structure or the expansion vessel.d). There is also a tundish nearby on this type, or a gap in the pipe so that you can see any water running through it. It is not normal to see any water in this part, Normally you should not see water in this pipe, however if one of the safety devices has operated, you will see water either running or dripping through and should call a professional G3 plumber straight away there is a problem.
