Plumbing Safety Gear

Footwear:
Boots are a great and very much needed asset to any tradesman. Should you decide to enter the world of do Do-It-Yourself plumbing you will, it is guaranteed drop something very heavy or sharp on your foot. Beside the pain it will stop the job, so a good pair of boots that feature steel caps in the toes are ideal. A good range is available and you should be able to find some to suit. Battersea Plumbers always wear safety boots when they work on any plumbing job.

Pads:
These protect the two most vulnerable points on your body form the rigours of the plumbing job. Plumbing injuries occur as you kneel down on hard, rough or uneven floors, so it helps to cushion the knees. They can be worn over the trousers. Note: They can irritate the back of your knees. A bonus is they are cheap and available at most DIY stores.

Mask:
If you have to work in a loft or a confined space you will definitely need a dust mask to protect you from breathing in dust etc. Usually for most plumbing work, a cheap white paper mask is fine but if you need to spend lots of time in a dusty area it is recommended to use the mask that has a filter cartridge inside. These are sold in a rechargeable form. When a professional plumbing tradesman is employed like a Battersea Plumber they know to wear a mask is required.

Safety Note:
A very basic mask will realistically provide little or no protection for the wearer from (for example) the inhalation of asbestos fibres. Because they are too small and will pass right through the filter fitted in the mask. If you suspect that asbestos could be present be in your home, you should immediately consult an expert and do not attempt to remove it.
