CH System (gravity fed)

The water in this type of system will enter the property via a valve called stop-tap. It then transits a ball valve and start to top up a small tank called a feed and expansion tank in the loft. Battersea Plumbers can fit, service and repair a central heating system. Gravity allows the water to leave the tank, to your boiler and then on to the radiators. This is why it is called gravity fed. Once the system has filled the valve shuts off, meaning hat this circuit of water will now move around the pipework for many years in some cases. Now can turn off your cold water mains when you go away, yet still leave your central heating on. To actually find out what type of system is fitted in your property, you just need to look in the loft space and sight the feed and expansion tank. This tank is fitted and so named because as water in a system heats it will expand, so the feed and expansion tank will collect this expanded water so that the system does not become over pressurised. The tank itself is small in comparison to many tanks. It is 500x300x300mm in size, and the water contained inside should look dank and dirty. If you can’t see the tank in the loft, you will probably find it located in the airing cupboard. Remember that it has to be sited at the highest place in the system, so as to gravity feed the radiators. A Battersea Plumber is trained to identify and work on all types of heating systems.
